Benedit Akemba recently completed a BA in New Media Studies, highlighting a keen interest in capturing the mundane elements of everyday life through YouTube videos, modeling and assisting shoots. Her writing delves into fashion's nuances, covering topics ranging from sustainability to Afro-centric identity and unity. During her third year, Benedit participated in the Erasmus+ program, studying communications with #GetConnected at RUAS in Rotterdam. This opportunity enhanced her interpersonal skills and introduced her to a global network of people. Through her work, Benedit hopes to continue connecting with diverse individuals in media and fashion.
This thesis examines the ways in which Black fashion designers mobilise fashion to decolonise the fashion industry and integrate the Black/African Diaspora through contemporary design.
