Benedit Akemba 

BA [Hons] New Media Studies

Benedit Akemba recently completed a BA in New Media Studies, highlighting a keen interest in capturing the mundane elements of everyday life through YouTube videos, modeling and assisting shoots. Her writing delves into fashion's nuances, covering topics ranging from sustainability to Afro-centric identity and unity. During her third year, Benedit participated in the Erasmus+ program, studying communications with #GetConnected at RUAS in Rotterdam. This opportunity enhanced her interpersonal skills and introduced her to a global network of people. Through her work, Benedit hopes to continue connecting with diverse individuals in media and fashion.

In the dynamic world of fashion, Black designers are forging their path, reshaping the industry's landscape with an unapologetic vision. This blog explores the critical role of Black designers in challenging colonial narratives, reclaiming cultural identity, and pushing for greater representation in media.
The conscious closet was a community created as part of the Erasmus programme in Rotterdam. TCC is for those who strive to become sustainable through fashion. An instagram page, website and tiktok account were made to create and engage with an audience.
"Cheaper by the Dozen" is a short poetic documentary created as a personal response to the Covid 19 pandemic. Shot and directed by Benedit, she illustrates the ways in which her family of 10 conduct themselves under one household.
